I love to collect things! Being around my stuffs just makes me happy. I'm sure there are many others out there like me. But how in the world do you put those collections to use in your home? I'll show you How to Decorate Your Home with the Things you Love
I am a collector! I love scouring thrift stores and antique markets to find the perfect pieces! Then I love to decorate my home with those pieces! I will show you how I decorate with the things I love!
Silver Trays I've been collecting silver trays for quite a while. I mostly pay $1-2 each at thrift stores. For me, they don't have to be actual silver. And the more patina the better.
I store my collections in 2 different places. I have them grouped on the wall in my lower bath (above pic) and in the doorway to my master bedroom.
Family Heirlooms Decorating with items that have meaning to our family makes me so happy! My husband's grandparents used to have a large farm. When they got to retirement age, they had an auction to liquidate their belongings. When we received this original printing of the auction poster, which I had framed and hung it in our home.
Memory Jar We have been collecting movie stubs, concert tickets, hotel keys etc in a rusty vintage jar, that is called our memory jar.
I love having a reminder of the many activities our family has done. Occasionally we pull them tickets and cards out and talk about the things we remember doing.
Vintage Collections Right when we moved to TN about 10 years ago, I found a large grain sifter at an antique store for a few dollars. I eventually found 2 smaller ones to make a collection. Every time I look at these sifters, they remind me of moving to TN.
Another thing in this picture I have collected is the lock boxes. My grandmother gave me one many years ago, that started my collection. I have come across a few more in one of my thrifting adventures.
Glass Jars Glass jars are another one of my favorite things to decorate with. I just love the way they sparkle. And I love filling them with various fillers, such as beans to hold a candle on my kitchen table.
Another idea is to place dried hydrangeas (from my own garden) and moss rocks in a fun spring display.
I also use glass jars on my kitchen counter to hold sugar, flour and cookie cutters. PS- I've put away the Christmas cookie cutters and filled the sugar container since this photo was taken. :)
Camera Collection My grandmother, who I think I get my love of stuff from, gave me the camera in the top right corner of this picture. That camera started my camera collection that I display on my craft room shelves. I've picked these up while thrifting and at the flea market. The one on the red suitcase is my first film SLR.
Family Photos Probably one of my favorite things to decorate with is family photos. When my youngest was a toddler, our photographer captured this image of just our feet and legs. So it's become a tradition to have a leg photo each time we get our photos taken. I mounted all of the photos on single weight mat board and hung them in a collection in our hall.
Since we get our family pictures done every year and I love coming up with new ways to display them.
I also like to keep older family photo prints on the wall in our playroom. It reminds me of how much my kids have grown and I LOVE to look at them!
I especially love when the photos evoke strong memories. This 3 frame has photos of my husband and myself when each of our babies were blessed. What special days each of them were! I love having the moment captured and framed to view on the walls of our home.
Signs I love to decorate with words. I'm big on typography so words make me happy. Since we live in the south, it's only appropriate we have a south sign.
I like to make signs with my favorite words and sayings to display around our home. This sign is in my kids' bathroom and we have several others around the house.
Do you have any collections? What do you use to decorate your home?
